Communication for All

Maynooth Autism Friendly Town (MAFT), with the support of Life Credit Union Maynooth, is proud to introduce a soft launch of Communication Boards across the town  a first-of-its-kind initiative in Ireland. This project focuses on store-specific communication boards, tailored to individual businesses to reflect their unique environments, products, and services. These boards are designed to support non-speaking and minimally speaking individuals, autistic people, young children, older adults, and anyone who may find verbal communication challenging. By allowing users to point to express needs, ask questions, and engage more confidently, the boards provide a practical and inclusive way to improve everyday interactions within the community. The first phase of the initiative is now live in:

• Maynooth Bookshop

This initiative reflects MAFT’s ongoing commitment to creating a town where everyone can participate fully. Communication is a fundamental right, and these boards represent a meaningful step towards removing barriers and fostering inclusion in public spaces. MAFT welcomes feedback from the community as the project continues to expand to additional locations.
